The Rand Water Zuikerbosch No 4A and B Station 800Ml/d rapid gravity potable water treatment plant, initially installed by PCI AFRICA in was completely re-automated using the latest generation plc’s, keeping to the same number and allocation as the previous system, i.e. six filters per plc, a total of eight plc panels and a new common washing machinery plc panel. The communication between all plc’s and the integrated Scada System was also updated to fibre optic.

The filters are arranged in two blocks of twenty-four, each block having a dedicated air blower and wash water pump. A third blower and pump act as standby for each block of filters.

The plant valve operation is mainly pneumatic, and all cylinders were re furbished as part of the modernization. The existing outlet control valves actuators were re-utilised.
